Argus conducted an in-depth study on leak detection technology for two governmental regulatory agencies, the Air Transport Association (ATA) and the American Petroleum Institute (API). Argus' task was to determine the best methods of leak detection technology for large capacity pressurized petroleum piping systems. The results of this study will establish new guidelines, standards and a direction in leak detection regulations for the 21st Century. Methods tested include: volumetric, pressure variations, pressure/temperature, acoustics, chemical tracer, custody transfer, flow/temperature, cable based systems, insertion probes, computer modeling. The results provided valuable information for ATA and API to endorse and implement industry guidelines and standards for leak detection as applied to airport hydrant systems and petroleum terminals.
