To develop a new 400-mile crude oil pipeline between Elk City, Oklahoma and Cushing, Oklahoma, Plains All-American Pipeline Company hired Argus Consulting to perform a fast-track engineering design for a new product gathering facility and pipeline pumping station in Colony OK. The gathering facility included a new 5,000bbl API-650 storage tank to receive crude oil from multiple independent oil company sources. Receiving equipment included LACT Units, metering and break-out manifolds. To support pipeline operations, a pressure booster pump was installed within the Colony Station Facility. This unit was a 1000 horsepower unit with a variable frequency drive (VFD) to modulate and maintain proper pipeline flow and pressure conditions. An integral part of the pipeline booster system included pig receiver, pig launcher and break-out manifolds. A common VFD and Control Systems Operational Building was installed to house VFD equipment and system/facility controls. Argus performed all engineering design within a 6-week period, which allowed Plains to put the station on-line eight months after approval of project funding.
