Due to political changes in the Mid-East, the USAF relocated its major theater air operations to support the U.S. Central Command with headquarters at Al Udeid Air Base. As with development of major flight operation areas, key airfield infrastructure items are the aircraft parking aprons and the aircraft hydrant fueling systems.
For Al Udeid, three separate infrastructure items were required:
For the first phase of this massive build-out, Argus prepared 35% Design/Build documents for the initial apron, the tanker aircraft parking apron hydrant system. As this apron could be required to operate under a scenario with several different types of aircraft, Argus developed a layout concept planning for various aircraft parking, which could be fueled by the minimum number of hydrant pit locations. This composite plane-to-pit approach provides a cost-effective construction and operations expenditure.
