Society of Automotive Engineers
The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) 5C Committee recently completed a three-year program, developing an SAE Standard Guidebook for Aircraft Fueling Systems. This document was developed with collective input from representatives from the commercial airlines, military agencies, engineering consultants, specialized contractors and equipment manufacturers. Boeing and Airbus engineers contributed significantly, providing operational requirements data for several different types of aircraft. Argus Consulting provided the technical and management resources of Kent Bredehoeft and Bill Penton in the development of this document.

Technology Developments
Ethanol Systems
As the demand for alternative fuels grows, requirements for materials used and construction methods has gained significant attention. To date, several states have implemented minimum standards in the utilization of ethanol-blended gasoline. A significant amount of research and technical papers have been produced in response to concerns of piping material corrosion and elastomers equipment degradation. As this is a relatively new technological challenge, many questions are still unanswered. One publication that Argus has referenced is API Ethanol Appendix A which provides background information on the impact issues of gasoline blended with ethanol. This document can be found in the API Publications Store of the API Web Site.
