To proceed with construction of a new $10M Fuel Storage Facility at BWI, it was first necessary to mitigate concerns posed by the Maryland Department of Environment (MDE). A large petroleum plume was discovered from the previous tenant’s operation and MDE was concerned about exposure during construction. To ensure the program moved forward with minimal impact, Argus coordinated:

  • Negotiations with the MDE ensured no delays on the construction program.
  • Installation of diagonal wells into the plume from outside the property limits so future remediation activities would not impact facility operations.
  • Screening, tracking and disposal of impacted media encountered during the two-year construction project.
  • Abatement and ultimate demolition of lead-based paint containing tanks and piping.

Argus successfully constructed the new facility on the same site, while keeping the existing facility in constant operation.
