Several leaking underground storage tanks (USTs) at a former service station were removed from service. During this process, soil and groundwater contamination was identified, impacting approximately one acre of high profile commercial/industrial property along Lake Formosa that ajoins a residential zone.
A multiplex remedial system was implemented at the site. Argus currently operates and maintains the system, which includes:
- Twenty-four multi-phase extraction and eight biosparging wells
- Submersible pneumatic pumps
- Groundwater treatment train
- Vapor extraction blowers
- Off-gas treatment process (catalytic oxidizer)
- On-site infiltration gallery
The remedial system has recovered more than 35,000 pounds of hydrocarbons to date. The operation and maintenance of the remediation system currently meets or exceeds target goals across the site and has already achieved the primary goal in meeting compliance objectives at the edge of Lake Formosa. The system operation has been recognized by the Lake Formosa Home Owners Association and City of Orlando government officials for proactively engaging and educating the public.
