Chicago Midway Airport (MDW)
Planning, Design and Construction Follow-On
The City of Chicago and the Midway Airlines Fuel Committee hired
Argus to plan and develop the design of a new aircraft fuel
receiving, storage and distribution system. The project was
stimulated by an increase in air carrier operations and the
construction of a new passenger terminal complex at MDW.
The System
The system was
designed to serve the commercial air carriers and the Corporate and
FBO operators at MDW. The new fuel facility provided for four
transport unloading positions, two 9,000 BBL above jet fuel storage
tanks, two remote refueler loading facilities, one adjacent to
the terminal/course complex and one on the south side of the airport
in the FBO/Corporate area.
Facility Components
Auxiliary
components in this facility included: a control/operators building,
an emergency electrical power generator, fixed foam fire protection
system and storage tanks for diesel fuel and auto gasoline to serve
MDW's GSE fleet.
